Description
A wild herd of female and male bull elk graze in a field near Buffalo National River in Boxley Valley, Arkansas, United States. This is near Ponca, AR. While on a weekend getaway on an early and cold fall season morning I got up to see if I could see some Elk. Spotting this herd, I walked through a wooded area to get to this spot. In this group there are two large bull elk along with some female cow elk. Was such a beautiful sight as I really enjoyed watching them. This area in Buffalo National River Park is a popular area for elk viewing. Also called wapiti, they are one the largest species of the deer family. Elk like to hang out in forest and forest-edge habitats, feeding on grass, plants, leaves, and bark. The males have large antlers , like this one, which they shed and regrow each year.
