Description
An inside black and white view of the replica of the boat barge or keelboat used by Lewis and Clark on their expedition. This sits at the Lewis & Clark Visitor Center in Nebraska City, Nebraska, United States. Their boat was 55 feet long and 8 feet 4 inches wide. They used the boat until they reached Mandan Villages which is now, North Dakota, in November of 1804. They spent the winters of 1804 and 1805 there frozen in ice on the Missouri River. They then loaded it with scientific specimens and sent the boat back down the Missouri River to St Louis with a crew of 12 men. No one knows what happened to the boat after it returned to St Louis. This area is also part of the Missouri River Basin.
