Description
A great blue heron spreads and stretches it's wings while he or she hunts along a grassy area in the middle of Lake Springfield in Springfield Missouri, United States. It had been cold for days so the lake was mostly frozen. They are wading birds that are commonly seen near water. They are the largest of the North American herons and have long legs, a sinuous neck, and thick, daggerlike bill. Their head, chest, and wing plumes have a shaggy like appearance. They are so fun to watch how patient they are at fishing and how slowly they move through the water.
