Description
Two beautiful Bald Eagles as they were switching turns taking care of their eggs. The female is taking off to go for her evening hunt for food. Their nest is near Lake Springfield in Springfield Missouri, United States. The bald eagle is a bird of prey found in North America and is the United States National Bird. Its range includes most of Canada and Alaska, all of the contiguous United States, and northern Mexico. They are found near large bodies of open water with an abundant food supply and old-growth trees for their nests.
The bald eagle is an opportunistic feeder which subsists mainly on fish, which it swoops down and snatches from the water with its claws / talons. It builds the largest nest of any North American bird and the largest tree nests ever recorded for any animal species, up to 13 feet deep, 8.2 feet wide, and 1 metric ton in weight. Sexual maturity is attained at the age of four to five years and that's when their heads turn white. (some info from wikipedia)
