Artist's Description
A red-tailed hawk, also known as chickenhawks sits in a tree during the winter season looking for it's next meal. It has a nest nearby, as I see it often in the area. I took this in Ozark Missouri, United States. He or she likes this large oak tree as it sits in the middle of an overgrown field, making it perfect for it to watch for field mice and other critters. The red-tailed hawk is one of the largest members of the genus Buteo. They can weigh up to 3.5 lbs on average. Their wing span can go up to almost 5 feet!
