Description
This pelican poses for me as it stands on the fishing pier railing in Cocoa Beach, Florida, United States. This is the black and white version. The wind is making some of their feathers on the back of their head stand up. Pelicans are large water birds that makes up the family Pelecanidae. They have a long beak and large throat pouch used for catching prey and draining water from the scooped contents before swallowing. The bills, pouches and bare facial skin of all species become brightly colored before the breeding season. They like to hang out inland and along costal waters where they feed principally on fish.
