Description
A beautiful view of Morris Island Lighthouse from the beach entrance on the north end of Folly Beach South Carolina, United States. Morris Island Lighthouse was constructed in 1876 and is on the National Register of Historic Places. When built, it was 1,200 from the edge of the Water and today it is surrounded by water several hundred feet off shore. In 1889 the construction of jetties leading to Charleston Harbor altered ocean currents, resulting in rapid erosion of Morris Island and many other historic structures. The Shoreline reached the lighthouse in 1938. In 1962 it was decommissioned and replaced by a new Lighthouse on Sullivans Island
