A photo of the historic Bridgeton Mill and covered bridge in Bridgeton Indiana, United States. The first Bridgeton Covered Bridge was a long double span Burr Arch bridge built in 1868 by a crew led by J.J. Daniels. The bridge was closed to traffic in 1967. It had been built to replace two prior open wooden bridges that had fallen in. After its destruction by fire in 2005 from arson, it was replaced in 2006 by a reproduction. The bridge is 267 feet long.
The mill is the oldest continually operating mill in Indiana (possibly the Midwest). They are not the oldest….
They have been open every year for over 180 years. It started as a saw mill in a log building. Later the mill was rerigged to grind grains on the other side of the building.
In 1869 the mill burns and a new larger building is built as a grist mill. In the 1880’s the new roller milling process is installed and it operated as a roller
