Artist's Description
A male and female couple mallard ducks are taking a walk along mostly frozen Lake Springfield in Springfield Missouri, United States. The female is almost disguised with the brown grass that's growing in the middle of the lake. Mallards belong to the subfamily Anatinae of the waterfowl family Anatidae. The males have glossy green and blue heads while the females are mainly brown-speckled. Both genders have an area of white bordered black speculum feathers which commonly include iridescent blue feathers especially among the males.
