Description
A male bull elk poses on a cold fall season morning in Boxley Valley, Arkansas, United States near the town of Ponca. I'm guessing this guy is a young teenager from the looks of his darker and longer fur coat. Behind the trees is the Buffalo River. This is a popular area for elk viewing. Also called wapiti, they are one the largest species of the deer family. Elk range in forest and forest-edge habitats, feeding on grass, plants, leaves, and bark. The males have large antlers , like this one, which they shed and regrow each year.
