Description
A black and white photo with waves rolling in on the shore with the Morris Island Lighthouse in the background. I took this from Folly Beach, South Carolina, United States. Morris Island Lighthouse was constructed in 1876 and is listed on the National Register of Historic Places.. When built, it was 1,200 from the edge of the Water and today it is surrounded by water several hundred feet away from the shore. The construction of jetties in 1889 leading to Charleston Harbor altered ocean currents, causing rapid erosion of Morris Island and many other historic structures. The shoreline reached the lighthouse in 1938. In '62 it was decommissioned and replaced by a new Lighthouse which is located on nearby Sullivans Island.
