A quiet summer day looking out at the Morris Island Lighthouse from Folly Beach, South Carolina, united States. This area of the beach has a lot of dead trees and driftwood due to erosion issues. Morris Island Lighthouse which was constructed in 1876 is on the National Register of Historic Places. When built, it was 1,200 feet from the edge of the water and today it is surrounded by water several hundred feet off shore. In 1889, construction of jetties leading to Charleston Harbor altered the ocean currents, resulting in rapid erosion of Morris Island and many other historic structures. The coastline reached the lighthouse in 1938 and in 1962 it was decommissioned.
