Description
A unique view of the top portion and dome of the capitol building in Jefferson City, Missouri, United States. I love the beautiful detailed architecture of this historic building. Jefferson City is the capital of the State of Missouri and the 15th most populous city in the state. It is also the county seat of Cole County and the principal city of the Jefferson City Metropolitan area. It is the third capitol in the city after the other two were demolished from a fire. The domed building was designed by the New York City architectural firm of Tracy and Swartwout and was completed in 1917. The dome rises 238 feet and is topped by a bronze statue of Ceres, the Roman goddess of agriculture, rises above the bluffs of the Missouri River and is the first view of Jefferson City for travelers arriving from the north. It is listed on the National Register of Historic Places.
