Description
A beautiful autumn afternoon at Maple Park Cemetery in Springfield Missouri. The nonprofit cemetery (Maple Park Cemetery Association) was founded and organized in 1876 by a group of local businessmen. The cemetery, which opened that year, was originally called Maple Shade Cemetery. Little is known about the Victorian-style gazebo including when it was built and who designed it. Although, according to a marker inside the gazebo, the structure was "built as a bandstand and shelter for public speakers." Also according the plaque, the structure was built in the late 1800s.
