I spotted this is praying mantis sitting on a blade of grass at a park in Springfield Missouri. The name praying came from their front legs, which are bent at an angle that looks like they are praying or in the prayer position. They are in the insect family and have triangle shaped heads that can turn 180 degrees and long bodies. Don't let thid cute smile fool you. They are dangerous to some mantis and some other insects. Sometimes the female will eat her mate during or after mating. They also eat other insects like moths, flies, and grasshoppers.
