Description
A photo with the Missouri River, railroad tracks, and Jefferson City Bridge during the autumn season. The Jefferson City Bridge is the name for 2 continuous through arch truss bridges over the Missouri River at Jefferson City, Missouri, over which US Route 54 and US 63 travel between Cole County, and Callaway County. The southbound bridge opened in August 1955. Its main span is 640 feet with total length of 3,093 feet
The northbound bridge opened in 1991. Its main span is 595 feet with a total length 3,124 ft. The Missouri River is the longest river in North America. Starting in the Rocky Mountains of western Montana, it flows east and south for 2,341 miles before entering the Mississippi River north of St. Louis, Missouri. The river takes drainage from a sparsely populated, semi-arid watershed of more than half a million square miles, which includes parts of 10 US states and 2 Canadian provinces. When combined with the lower Mississippi River, it's the world's 4th longest river system.
