Description
I captured this Great White Egret flying from spot to spot hunting fish at Lake Springfield in Springfield Missouri. I haven't seen a Great egret here before. Apparently they stop by on their way to their summer home. This was the only day I saw it so I feel lucky. The great egret (Ardea alba), also known as the common egret, large egret, great white egret, or great white heron is a large egret, with 4 subspecies found in Asia, Africa, the Americas, and southern Europe. They like warmer climates. They build their nests in trees close to water. It is a member of the heron family, Ardeidae. They are commonly classified with the storks. I took this during the spring season.
