Description
Fort D is one of four forts built around the city of Cape Girardeau, Missouri, United States in 1861 under the orders of General John Frémont. Fort D is the only one of the four that still exist thanks to civic action in the 1930’s and is now a city historic site. It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 2019. The fort protected the city of Cape Girardeau from attack.
