Description
I found this group of female mallards interesting because there were no males with them as they flew off. Maybe they were protesting against the males. Mallards belong to the subfamily Anatinae of the waterfowl family Anatidae. The males have glossy green and blue heads while the females are mainly brown-speckled. Both genders have an area of white bordered black speculum feathers which commonly include iridescent blue feathers especially among the males.
This has been featured in the following groups:
-11.13.18 Ducks Geese and Swans
-11.13.18 Wild Birds of the World
