Description
A reconstruction duplicate of the Elkhorn Tavern At Pea Ridge National Military Park in Garfield Arkansas, United States. The original building served travelers on the Telegraph Road before the Civil War. During the war, General Samuel R Curtis used the tavern as part of his supply base until Confederates took over it on March 7, 1862. They turned it into a field hospital caring for both Confederate and Union soldiers. The Union retook it back on March 8th after routing the Confederate from the field. Then the Federals used it as a military telegraph station until Confederate guerrillas burned it down in 1863. It got it's name because of the elk horns attached to the top of the roof. This is the battle that saved Missouri for the Union. In the far distance you can see one of the canons used during the war.
