Description
This is a black and white urban street scene photo taken along Lucas Avenue in downtown St Louis Missouri, United States. The bridge in the background is known as Eads Bridge. It is a steel combined road and railway bridge over the Mississippi River and connects St Louis, Missouri with East St Louis, Illinois. Opening in 1874, it was one of the earliest long bridges built across the Mississippi and the world's first all steel construction. It was built high enough so steamboats could travel underneath. The national historic landmark is listed on the National Register of Historic Places.
