Description
A beautiful clear blue sky day capture of the sand dunes near the Little Sable Point Lighthouse, which is located south of Pentwater in the lower peninsula of the U.S. state of Michigan. It is in the southwest corner of Golden Township, just south of Silver Lake State Park. A sand dune is a hill of loose sand built by wind or the flow of water. They are different shapes and sizes, formed by interaction with the flow of air or water.
Dunes occur in some deserts and along some coasts. Dunes are important in protecting the land from storms, high winds and tides. The sea oats (grass) have deep roots which helps stabilize the sand dunes.
