Description
A piece of driftwood washed ashore along the beach of Lake Superior at Whitefish Point in Michigan, United States. Driftwood is wood that has been washed onto a shore or beach of a sea, lake, or river by the action of winds, tides or waves. Most driftwood is the remains of trees, in whole or part, that have been washed into the ocean, due to flooding, high winds, or other natural occurrences, or as the result of logging. It is a form of marine debris or tidewrack. Whitefish Point is located at the extreme southeastern end of Lake Superior. It is a critical turning point for all vessel traffic entering and leaving this largest of all the Great Lakes. Whitefish Point is on the coastline known as the “Graveyard of the Great Lakes”.
