Description
This unique square red lighthouse is known as Charlevoix South Pierhead Light located near Charlevoix, Michigan, United States. It's also located on Lake Michigan which is part of the Great Lakes. The first light was located on the north pier and was built in 1885 to guide ships to the newly improved Pine River channel. It survived for 63 years but due to deterioration, it was replaced in 1948 with this new steel structure on the south pier. The light was was moved to this new lighthouse structure. In 1989 the old wooden pier was replaced with the current steel and concrete pier.
