Description
A large bull elk walks away from a younger bull elk on a cold fall season morning in Boxley Valley, Arkansas, United States. I guessing this is a father and son. The younger one, I would describe as a teenager but not sure. This is near the town of Ponca, AR. Behind the trees is the Buffalo National River. This is a popular area for elk viewing. Also called wapiti, they are one the largest species of the deer family. Elk range in forest and forest-edge habitats, feeding on grass, plants, leaves, and bark. The males have large antlers , like this one, which they shed and regrow each year.
