Description
A macro capture of blooms from a Bradford Pear Tree during the Spring in Eureka Springs Arkansas. Other countries call this a Callery Pear Tree. It is native to China and Vietnam and is a deciduous tree growing 16 - 26 ft tall (5-8 m), often with a conic to rounded crown. The leaves are oval, glossy dark green above and slightly paler below. The white, five petaled flowers bloom during the spring before the leaves. The fruits are small and hard, almost woody, until softened by frost, after which they are readily taken by birds. They are remarkably resistant to disease, however they are regularly damaged and killed by strong winds, ice storms, heavy snow, or limb loss due to their naturally excessive growth rates.
