Description
A mixed media art piece looking down the Whitewater River at the Bollinger Mill and Burfordville Covered Bridge on a beautiful spring day in the Ozarks. Located in Burfordville, near Cape Giraradeau MO, the bridge is the oldest remaining covered bridge in Missouri. There are only 4 remaining covered bridges in MO. Construction started in 1858 but they don't know if it was completed before or after the civil war. After the Civil War, the bridge became a vital link, especially to farmers driving wagon loads of grain destined for the mill. The original Bollinger Mill built in 1825 burned in 1861 by the Union Army during the Civil War. This current 4 story mill was rebuilt and completed in 1867 on the original limestone foundation. They both are included in the National Register of Historic Places.
