Description
It's like this beautiful male mallard stopped to pose for me as I was trying to take his photo. Isn't his backside markings pretty? I love the look of the male mallards. I took this in Springfield Missouri, United States near Lake Springfield during the winter season. Mallards belong to the subfamily Anatinae of the waterfowl family Anatidea. The males have glossy green and blue heads while the females are mainly brown-speckled. Both genders have an area of white bordered black speculum feathers which commonly include iridescent blue feathers especially among the males.
